Travelling from Manali to Leh This is the most popular route to leh, which has opened in 1989, and its rawness and high altitude scenery certainly makes the visitors breathless. This is WORLD’s SECOND HIGHEST MOTORABLE ROAD from manali (2050 mts) to Tanglang La (5328 Mtrs). In favorable conditions it is about 3 days journey. Normally the road opens in July and closes by 15 September with the snowfall. To explore best – always use a 4WD vehicle like Scorpio or Mahindra Xylo. Itinerary : - Day 1 - Manali to Keylong From Manali the road moves north along the river Beas and then ascends through pine forests to Mirhi. We move further and arrive at Rohtang La (3980 mts) – the first and lowest pass on the road to Leh. After crossing the pass, the road moves to Gramphu and splits northwest to the Lahaul Valley, Keylong and to Leh. The Southest road moves to the Southern Lahaul and Spiti valley. Keylong is capital of Lahaul and Spiti and only town between Manali and Leh. There are numerous hotels and guest houses which serve the tourists to its best. Choice of Stay – Hotel/Guest house Day 2 – Keylong – Baralacha La - Sarchu Darcha is the last permanent settlement on this road before Rumtse in Ladakh. It is going to be long winding climb 4883 mtrs pass. Baralacha la means it is a double pass linking both the Chandra and Bhaga Valleys. At 36 kms from Baralachala, is Sarchu for overnight stop. There are some tents for night stay and road dhabas for food. Choice of Stay – Tent / village guest house Day 3 – Sarchu – Lachung La – Tanglang La – Rumtse – Upshi – Leh The Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir starts just after the Sarchu. The Road after some 50 kms enters the Lingti Chu river valley at an Altitude of 5060 kms. From the pass, the road is in poor condition and enters the Gorges of PANG. Further continue to Tanglang La (5328 mtrs) , which is world’s Second highest motorable pass. After crossing this pass, it is an easy drive upto Rumtse, Option for overnight stay, some more tough ones can continue upto Upshi and then small drive to Leh. On the way, you can get glimpses of Magnificient gompas of Shey, Thiksey and Stok. Night in Hotel. |
