1)In the public don’t hold the hand of your girlfriend/boyfriend or hug each other
2) If you see two men having there hand-in-hand, it doesn’t mean that they are homosexual. In India it represents the friendship.
3) If you are going to visit a temple or a holy place its always compulsory to off your shoes while entering. It’s not compulsory to buy any offerings in the temple or give money.
4) If you rent a rickshaw or auto rickshaw for short distance, always negotiate the price, as some times they are two times the actual price.
5) Don’t go with the persons unknown to you, to markets, to visit monuments, in the shops, as there is lots of people in the form of touts will try to cheat you.
6) The most utilised form of salutation in India is “Namaste”, by joining your hands under your chest and slightly bowing forward. It can be used to greet both men and women.
7) While on the table don’t touch the legs of your friend with you leg as it’s a bad sign on the contrary you can touch the foots of elder persons it’s the biggest respect shown for elder persons.
8) Often the Indians will reply you while doodling there head from left to right with a huge smile ”way to say no in Europe” but don’t be confused it doesn’t mean no, it’s the Indian way to say YES.
9) In India always try to wear decent cloths and avoid shorts skirts etc 1) When you want to take photographs always ask the permission and don’t give any money in return. One advise never give money to children as the money given will not serve them as this is collected by the local mafias who use it to buy drugs and liquor.
10) If you are invited for a meal in an Indian family forget all your European habits. Offer a gift to the host; it can be an Indian dress “sari” or a bouquet of flowers. When you will arrive at the home you will find that the family is waiting for you at the door, just go close to them and greet them while saying them Namaste with both the hands join. In India we don’t take aperitifs. You could be offered to eat at the table or even on floor, you first wash your hands and we eat food by our hands, particularly use your right hand as the left hand is considered impure, (for left hander’s its opposite). If you don’t know how to eat by hand, you see other people how they eat or you ask to your host to explain. After the meal always wash your hands. If you are served in a banana leaf, throw it your self.
11) Keep eye on your belonging while travailing in public transports like buses or trains because there are thefts.
